Abia CP Afolabi Visits Zone 9 AIG, Seeks Support for Security Strategies
_Highlights plans on cybercrime, crime mapping and community policing_
UMUAHIA, Abia State – The Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Wilfred Afolabi, on Sunday, August 17, 2026, paid a courtesy visit to the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 9 Command Headquarters, AIG Nwonyi Polycarp Emeka.
The visit was to formally inform the AIG of his assumption of duty as CP Abia State and to brief him on ongoing operational strategies being implemented in line with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police.
Briefing the AIG, CP Afolabi outlined key areas of focus for the Command to include addressing communication challenges observed upon his assumption, particularly the limitation of communication frequency coverage in key areas such as Aba.
Others are strengthening crime prevention through crime mapping and proactive policing; and enhancing intelligence gathering and intelligence-led investigations.
He also highlighted plans for the continuous training and retraining of officers to ensure professionalism and efficiency.
The CP further disclosed efforts to make the Cybercrime Unit of the Command more functional to effectively tackle cyber-related crimes in the state through continuous training of personnel.
He emphasised the promotion of community partnership with focus on professionalism, discipline, accountability, and effective service delivery.
“CP Afolabi reiterated his commitment to ensuring that officers of the Command discharge their duties professionally, civilly, and in accordance with the law,” the statement said.
He also sought the continued support and collaboration of the AIG towards achieving the Command’s operational objectives and constitutional mandate.
In his response, AIG Nwonyi Polycarp Emeka expressed satisfaction with the operational footing of the Command in ensuring safety and security in the state,
He encouraged CP Afolabi to sustain the good work, and assured him of his support and cooperation in achieving the overall policing objectives of the Nigeria Police Force.
