Abia Police Inaugurate PCRC Safe Schools Initiative to Strengthen Security In Educational Institutions

CP Afolabi: Community-Driven Support Critical To Effective Policing

UMUAHIA, Abia State – The Abia State Police Command has officially inaugurated the Police Community Relations Committee, PCRC Safe Schools Initiative as part of efforts to strengthen security in educational institutions across the state.

The inauguration was performed on Tuesday, by the Commissioner of Police, CP Wilfred Afolabi at the Command Headquarters.

The PCRC delegation was led by its Chairman, Chief Kpakpando Igboaulam, alongside members of the executive and committee of the initiative.

According to the Command, the Safe Schools Initiative is aimed at strengthening the security of schools through strategic collaboration, community engagement, and proactive safety measures.

Its core responsibilities include mobilizing stakeholders, promoting safety awareness, supporting school-based security, coordinating student mentorship and civic education, facilitating the training of safety volunteers, and encouraging the deployment of modern security systems, including surveillance where necessary.

Addressing the delegation, CP Afolabi highlighted the Command’s ongoing operational efforts to safeguard schools across Abia State.

These include routine patrols around educational institutions, continuous monitoring across Area Commands and Divisions, and daily documentation of security activities to ensure accountability and responsiveness.

The CP commended the PCRC for what he described as a “bold and timely initiative”, noting that community-driven support remains critical to effective policing.

He encouraged the Committee to sustain the momentum, deepen stakeholder collaboration, and ensure that the initiative translates into visible safety outcomes in schools across the State.

In his remarks, the Coordinator of the PCRC Safe Schools Initiative, Abia State, expressed appreciation to the Commissioner for his support and leadership.

He assured that the Committee would justify the confidence reposed in them, adding that “Abia State is known for exceeding expectations and delivering beyond capacity” and that the initiative would set a benchmark for school safety across the country.

The Command reiterated its commitment to working closely with all relevant stakeholders to ensure a safe, secure, and conducive environment for learning in Abia State.
