Abia CP Afolabi Orders Tougher Patrols, Zero Tolerance for Extortion, and Stronger Community Policing

UMUAHIA — The Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Wilfred Afolabi has directed Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and Heads of Tactical Units to intensify patrols and enforce professionalism across the Command.

CP Afolabi gave the directive on Wednesday, September 10, 2026, during a strategic conference with senior officers of the Command in Umuahia.

Addressing the officers, the CP emphasised the need to sustain community safety partnerships at all levels.

He ordered improved public accessibility through the publication of contact details of DPOs and the installation of suggestion boxes in police stations.

“Professionalism in appearance and operations must be non-negotiable,” Afolabi said. He directed that all operational vehicles must be properly marked, officers must be in full uniform with visible name tags, and supervision of personnel must be strengthened.

The CP reiterated the Command’s zero tolerance for extortion and warned that any officer found wanting would face disciplinary action.

He also charged officers to comply with the Nigeria Police Force Social Media Policy and to act promptly on credible intelligence while protecting informants.

On crime prevention, Afolabi ordered proactive measures against emerging threats and enhanced patrols, especially in non-motorable areas.

He directed increased collaboration with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, to tackle drug abuse, and stronger efforts against human trafficking and irregular migration, including strict enforcement of the Brown Card.

He further stressed respect for human rights, civility in public interactions, effective coordination in joint operations, and unity of purpose among officers.

“Junior officers are to accord due respect to their superiors at all times, while senior officers are to exercise firm, fair, and responsible leadership,” he said. “Strict adherence to the chain of command, coupled with professionalism and mutual respect, remains essential to the effective discharge of our duties.”

CP Afolabi concluded by urging all officers to implement the directives with measurable results, in line with the Inspector-General of Police’s directive on professionalism and accountability.

The meeting had in attendance Area Commanders, DPOs, Heads of Departments, and Commanders of Tactical Units across Abia State.
