UMUAHIA, Abia State – The Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi, has commenced impromptu operational and familiarization visits to Police Divisions and formations across the state.

The visits, described as deliberately unannounced, are aimed at enabling the CP to personally assess officers’ attitude to duty, inspect working environments and operational conditions, identify challenges, and obtain a true picture of the Command’s realities.

Within the week, CP Afolabi visited the Central Police Station (CPS), Umuahia; Police Divisional Headquarters, World Bank; Ubakala Police Division; and the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).

During interactions with officers, the CP made critical observations and issued directives to strengthen security within the formations.

He emphasised the need for tightened and adequate security, stressing that station guards must “remain alert, vigilant, and responsive at all times, as they constitute the first line of security for every police formation.”

CP Afolabi reiterated the vision of the Inspector-General of Police, which is anchored on accountability, professionalism, intelligence-led policing, and community policing, noting that these principles form the roadmap for his operational strategies in Abia.

He outlined his implementation strategy to include proactive crime prevention, high standards of conduct in discharging duties, and improved interactions with members of the public.

The CP charged officers to remain “professionally committed, disciplined, vigilant, and responsive to the security needs of the communities they serve.”

He also declared a zero-tolerance stance against misconduct, corruption, extortion and other unethical practices capable of bringing the Nigeria Police Force into disrepute.

“Culpable officers and the end users of such corrupt practices will face appropriate disciplinary action,” CP Afolabi warned.

The Commissioner assured that the Command under his leadership will prioritise preventive and proactive policing to enhance safety across Abia State.
