Imo Police Arrest Two Vigilantes Over Viral Okigwe Assault Video

CP Bosso Vows Action, Says Suspects Are Not Police Officers

OWERRI, Imo State – The Imo State Police Command has arrested two members of the Imo State Vigilante Organization in connection with a viral video showing the assault of a young woman and her brother at Okigwe.

The suspects, identified as Ejiogu Nchekwube and Caleb Onyebuchi, are currently detained at the Okigwe Divisional Police Headquarters as investigation into the incident continues.

This was disclosed in a statement on Monday signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Okoye Henry.

The Command said it took note of the video currently circulating on social media, which depicted the assault of the siblings who were reportedly en route to Abia State University.

The Command clarified that the armed men seen in the video are not police officers, but personnel of the Imo State Vigilante Organization.

“The individuals… have been arrested and are currently detained at the Okigwe Divisional Police Headquarters, while investigation into the incident continues,” the statement said.

The Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Audu Garba Bosso reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to professionalism, accountability, and respect for the rights of members of the public.

He assured that anyone found culpable will face appropriate action in accordance with the law.

The Command also urged the public to remain calm and refrain from circulating unverified information, and to rely on official channels for verified updates.

“Further information will be communicated to the public as the investigation progresses,” DSP Okoye added.
