UMUAHIA, Abia State– A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Hon. Mark Ugorji, has called on the people of Abia State to support the re-election of Governor Alex Otti in 2027, saying the governor’s performance in the last three years warrants another term.

Ugorji, a native of Okwu Olokoro in Umuahia South LGA, made the call on Thursday in Umuahia while assessing the administration’s performance.

He said Governor Otti had achieved milestones in infrastructure, education, commerce and industry that surpassed what previous administrations delivered.

According to Ugorji, the benefits of the present administration are already visible across the state.

“For me, Alex Otti has done very well. People may criticise and say different things, but I have made up my mind to say clearly that Alex Otti is going for a second tenure. There is no vacancy in Government House, Abia State. We will give him maximum support, no matter whose ox is gored,” he said.

He noted that despite all states receiving federal allocations, the level of development in Abia was unmatched. He attributed this to the governor’s competence and background, recalling that Otti graduated as a first-class student and rose to become a bank Managing Director.

Ugorji specifically commended the construction of the Smart School in Ubakala, Umuahia South, saying it had given children access to modern learning facilities and computers.

He also listed key projects including the reconstruction of Port Harcourt Road in Aba, the six-lane expansion of Ossah Road in Umuahia, and the Omenuko Bridge.

He praised the administration’s urban renewal and sanitation drives in Aba and Umuahia, which he said had helped address flooding around major commercial areas, including Ariaria International Market.

On power, he noted the partnership with Geometric Power to improve electricity supply and boost industrial capacity.

Ugorji said efforts to revive industries, organize technology workshops and attract investments would create jobs for youths and help tackle insecurity.

He also highlighted fiscal reforms such as debt reduction, payment of salary and pension arrears, and the establishment of the Abia Industrial and Innovation Park, AIIP.

In education, he cited the rehabilitation of public schools, stricter academic standards, centralised promotion exams, compulsory teaching of Igbo, and improved teacher welfare.

In health, he said the government had upgraded primary healthcare centres and general hospitals, recruited health personnel, and strengthened the Abia State University Teaching Hospital, ABSUTH.

On security, he commended Operation Crush, the joint security initiative, and stronger collaboration with federal security agencies.

Ugorji said Otti inherited a difficult situation and started from scratch, adding that the foundation already laid required more time to consolidate.

“When I heard all these things, I made up my mind to say no, this man needs to go again. If he does what he has done in four years and does it for another four years, meaning eight years, Abia State will not be the same,” he said.

He added that he and his supporters would mobilise for Otti’s re-election in 2027, stressing that continuity would enable the governor to complete more of his development agenda and further position Abia as an investment destination.
