Abia Police Begin Statewide Enforcement Against Defaced Number Plates, Illegal Tinted Glasses

UMUAHIA — The Abia State Police Command on Sunday, September 21, 2026, commenced a coordinated public safety enforcement drive against vehicles with defaced, covered or improperly displayed registration number plates and unlawful use of tinted glasses without valid permits.

In a press release signed by Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chinaka, the Command said the operation was in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police and marching orders of the Commissioner of Police, CP Wilfred Afolabi.

The exercise was led by Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Ifeanyi Ohuruzo, and comprised officers of the Area Command Umuahia, the State Traffic Department and personnel from Central Police Station.

According to the statement, officers were briefed before the exercise and charged to maintain professionalism and strictly adhere to operational ethics.

The Command advised members of the public to ensure strict compliance with existing vehicle regulations by avoiding defaced or covered plates and ensuring tinted vehicles are operated only with valid permits issued by appropriate authorities.

It urged public cooperation with ongoing enforcement in the interest of safety, law and order, while encouraging residents to report any misconduct or unprofessional behaviour by officers during the exercise to its Complaint Response Unit via 09031593827 and 09035401645.

The Command said the exercise is ongoing in Aba and across various Area Commands in the state as it intensifies efforts to enhance security, ensure compliance with traffic and vehicle regulations, and protect lives and property.
