UMUAHIA, Abia State – The Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Wilfredb Afolabi, on Monday, August 18, 2026, received a delegation of the Police Retired Officers Forum of Nigeria, Abia State Chapter, at the Command Headquarters in Umuahia.

The delegation, led by the National Secretary, Dr. Enyi Ignatius, paid the courtesy visit to welcome and congratulate the CP on his assumption of duty.

Speaking during the visit, Dr. Ignatius expressed the Forum’s readiness to support the Command in its efforts to prevent and combat crime. He assured the CP of the group’s willingness to place its wealth of experience and resources at the disposal of the Command whenever required.

In response, CP Afolabi appreciated the delegation for its continued commitment to supporting the Command in combating crime.

He stated that his administration is focused on implementing the vision of the Inspector-General of Police, including the training and retraining of officers to enhance professionalism and intelligence-led policing.

The CP also acknowledged some operational challenges confronting the Command. These include communication limitations affecting areas outside Umuahia, and the need to strengthen the Cybercrime Department to effectively respond to cyber-related crimes in the state.

The Commissioner of Police thereafter conveyed the directive of the Inspector-General of Police to the retired officers.

He urged them to utilise established institutional channels to communicate concerns on sensitive national security matters before resorting to public discourse.

He emphasised that unverified public statements, particularly during media engagements, could undermine ongoing security operations and diminish public confidence in the Force.

The visit ended with both parties reaffirming their commitment to partnership in ensuring safety and security in Abia State.
