UMUAHIA, Abia State – The Abia State Government has announced the cancellation of the Monthly Environmental Sanitation Exercise scheduled for Saturday, 29th August 2026 across the state.

This was contained in a press release authorized by the Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Philemon Asonye Ogbonna.

According to the release, despite the cancellation, all citizens and residents are urged to continue to keep their homes, business premises, streets and immediate surroundings clean and healthy.

The government emphasized that environmental cleanliness should not be limited to the official monthly sanitation day.

“Environmental cleanliness is a collective responsibility and should not be observed only during the officially designated monthly sanitation exercise,” the statement read.

Residents were therefore encouraged to properly dispose of waste, clear blocked drainage channels, maintain clean surroundings and desist from indiscriminate dumping of refuse.

The State Government appreciated the cooperation and support of Ndi Abia in its continued efforts to promote a clean, healthy and environmentally sustainable state.

The Ministry of Environment said enforcement and sensitization teams will continue routine monitoring to ensure compliance with environmental laws across the 17 Local Government Areas.
