Abia at 35: Commissioner for Transport, Dr. Chimezie Ukaegbu Felicitates Gov. Otti, Abia People

_Hails Transportation Reforms, Electric Buses, Terminal Projects, and Smart School Initiative_

The Abia State Commissioner for Transport, Dr. Chimezie Isaac Ukaegbu, has congratulated the State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, the Government and the good people of Abia State on the 35th anniversary of the creation of Abia State.

In a press statement issued in Umuahia, Dr. Ukaegbu described the 35 years of Abia’s existence as a journey of resilience, enterprise, and renewed hope, noting that the state has entered a new era of purposeful leadership under Governor Otti.

“On behalf of the Ministry of Transport, I join millions of Abians at home and in the diaspora to celebrate this historic milestone. The creation of Abia 35 years ago was the birth of an identity, and today, under the visionary leadership of Dr. Alex Otti, we are witnessing the rise of a new Abia,” the Commissioner stated.

Dr. Ukaegbu highlighted key achievements of the Otti administration in the transportation sector, saying they align with the government’s agenda of modernising infrastructure and improving ease of movement.

He listed the completion and commissioning of the Nnenna Oti Terminal in Umuahia, and the ongoing construction of a modern transport terminal in Aba as flagship projects that will decongest cities, create jobs, and boost commerce.

He further noted the introduction of electric buses into the Abia State transport ecosystem as a bold step toward clean, affordable, and sustainable mass transit.

“These interventions are not just about roads and vehicles. They are about dignity, about giving Abians a transport system that is safe, modern, and befitting of God’s Own State,” he said.

The Commissioner also commended the Governor for landmark achievements across other sectors, with special mention of infrastructure renewal, healthcare revitalization, and the Smart School Initiative in education.

“The Smart School project is already setting a new benchmark in learning and will equip our children to compete globally. Combined with investments in health and roads, it is clear that this administration is laying a solid foundation for the next 35 years,” Dr. Ukaegbu added.

Reaffirming the Ministry’s commitment, Dr. Ukaegbu pledged to continue working to actualise the Governor’s vision of “A New Abia” through strategic reforms in transport and logistics.

He also expressed support for the Governor’s quest for a second term in office in 2027*, saying the continuity of the current administration is critical to consolidating the gains recorded so far.

“As we celebrate 35 years, let us recommit to peace, unity, and hard work. The Ministry of Transport will continue to drive policies that connect our people, grow our economy, and make Abia the hub of commerce in the South East,” he concluded.
