Abia To Hold September Sanitation Exercise On Saturday, September 26

UMUAHIA — The Abia State Government has announced that the monthly sanitation exercise for September will hold on Saturday, September 26, 2026, between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. across the state.

In a press release signed by the Public Relations Officer for the Commissioner for Environment, Obioma Chidinma Success, and authorized by the Commissioner, Mr. Philemon Asonye Ogbonna, the government said movement of people and vehicles during the period will be restricted except those on essential duties who must present valid identification or authorization on demand.

The release directed Chairmen (Mayors) of Local Government Councils, traditional rulers, town union leaders, religious leaders, youth and women organizations to monitor and sensitize residents on the importance of the exercise and to participate.

It stated that all markets, motor parks, private and public transport companies as well as business premises are to remain closed on Friday, September 25, 2026, between 7:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. [as contained in the release], with tippers deployed on Saturday to cart away refuse.

The Nigeria Police, Federal Road Safety Corps, and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps are to assemble at their usual take-off points for deployment.

The Ministry urged residents to stay at home, clean their surroundings and use nose masks during the exercise, warning that defaulters will be arrested and prosecuted in line with the Abia State Basic Environmental Law.
