2027: Otti Orders Express Approval For Opposition Campaigns, Warns Against Political Intimidation In Abia

UMUAHIA — Governor Alex Otti has ordered security agencies in Abia State to grant express approval to all political parties seeking to campaign in the state, insisting on politics without bitterness ahead of 2027 general elections.

Otti gave directive during monthly State Security Council Meeting held in Umuahia to review security situation and sustain gains recorded in keeping state safe.

Briefing journalists after meeting, Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi, said Governor made their work easier by explicitly directing that level playing field must be created for all parties.

“We just came out from meeting chaired by Executive Governor. A lot of matters were discussed, some centered on forthcoming elections. His Excellency has made our work easier. He told us explicitly that all he wants is for us to create level playing field for all. He directed that any political party that applies for approval to hold campaigns should be granted express approval,” Afolabi said.

CP Afolabi said following three-day Regional Police Retreat held in Imo State chaired by Inspector-General of Police and attended by governors and senior police officers, and with support of Abia Government, security agencies are fully prepared to ensure rancour-free campaigns and elections in 2027.

Special Adviser to Governor on Security, Navy Commander MacDonald Ubah (Rtd), said Otti is a just man who wants politics without bitterness.

“He has given his go-ahead that all political parties that want to campaign should not be impeded, as long as they pay approved fees for use of stadiums or any public facilities. They are free, without hindrance, to carry out their campaigns,” Ubah said.

Ubah warned mischief-makers that law would catch up with anyone attempting to cause mayhem.

“The law has a long arm. The State will not sit back and allow anyone to intentionally break law,” he said.

The Eagle News learnt that Otti himself was once a victim of assassination attempt during his political journey, an attack that claimed the lives of two police officers attached to him.
