Comfort Foundation, The Atuma Brothers Empower Over 50 Widows with Cash in Abia Community

The Atuma Brothers Empowerment Foundation and Comfort Foundation has empowered over 50 widows, widowers and orphans with cash gifts in Iberenta Ọrọ-ibere Autonomous Community Ikwuano Local Government Area.

The initiative, part of the foundation’s efforts to provide relief to widows, saw each beneficiary receiving cash to support their livelihoods.

Chairman of The Atuma Brothers Empowerment Foundation, Dr Oscar Atuma, said the annual widows empowerment aligns with the foundation’s mandate of supporting the less privileged in the society.

“By empowering widows, we are addressing the vulnerabilities they face and promoting their well-being. Our foundation is built on the philanthropic legacy of the late Ugoeze Comfort Atuma, known for his kindness and generosity. Through this initiative, we demonstrate our commitment to caring for the most vulnerable,” he said.

Atuma said the selection process was rigorous and transparent, with a focus on identifying those most in need and do not have any means of support from family members.

“The selection process for beneficiaries is transparent, we worked with community leaders and some community members to identify widows in need of support. Then, we conduct needs assessment to determine the support they require. Our criteria prioritises the most vulnerable, including disability, chronic illness, and dependent children,” he said.

“I am impressed by the foundation’s commitment to supporting our widows. Their efforts are a testament to the power of compassion and kindness, may their generosity inspire us to reach out to those in need, and may God continue to bless them,” he said.

A beneficiary, Mrs. Achama Eze hailed the foundation.

“I am overwhelmed with joy and gratitude, this gift will support my family. I pray God continues to bless the foundation and its donors,” she said.

Other beneficiaries, including Mrs Ezinne John Emele and Mrs Onyinyechi Eluwa, expressed profound gratitude for the compassion of the Comfort Foundation to identify with them at this time of the year. They called on other well meaning individuals to emulate the Foundation.

The empowerment cut across all the hamlets in Iberenta community. According to Prince Pascal Atuma, who represented the Chairman of the Foundation, Dr. Oscar Atuma, the reason is ensure inclusiveness as no one should left behind.

He assured the beneficiaries that the would continue to cater for their well-being in line with its mandate emphasising that the need for them to make good use of the funds for their upkeep.
