Abia Govt Reiterates Support for Skill Development as Bloom Foundation/AWCO Graduates Vocational Trainees

The wife of the Abia State Governor Mrs Priscilla Otti has reiterated the commitment of the state government to continue to support initiatives that promote skill development, entrepreneurship and economic inclusion.

Mrs Otti was speaking at the maiden Graduation ceremony of the Bloom Health Foundation/AWCO organised Vocational Skill Acquisition for Trainees at AWCO Resource Centre Akahaba General Hospital Abiriba, urged them to be good ambassadors of the Bloom Foundation and AWCO and the Abiriba community at large.

The Governor’s wife, represented by the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Dr Mrs Maureen Aghukwa, maintained that the Governor remains committed to women and youth empowerment, stressing that when women and youth are empowered, families are strengthened, communities thrive and the state prospers.

She appreciated the trainees, their trainers, the facilitators, community leaders, parents and partners who played various roles in making the program a success, stating that their investment of time, resources and mentorship is shaping a better future for our people.

Mrs Otti enjoined them to allow their work speak for them as they have become employers of labor and agents of positive change wherever they find themselves.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Health, Professor Enoch Uche called on the graduands to sustain the legacy of progressive societal development by training others in the skill they have acquired.

In a keynote address, the Founder and President of the Bloom Health Foundation, Iyom Dr. Ureh Lekwauwa called on Government to strengthen the infrastructure that enable rural communities to learn, grow, work and thrive.

Iyom Lekwauwa further called for an investment in skill acquisition, as a pathway for family stability, community Health and national prosperity.

Earlier in her welcome address, the General President of Abiriba Women Cultural Organisation AWCO Elder Iyom Georgina Agbagha disclosed that over 70 applicants were screened with 30 selected for training in various areas of interests including hair dressing, decorations, fashion designing among others.

She announced that 28 persons have successfully undergone the 6 months training acquiring skill and ready for empowerment and expressed the hopes that the training received would go a long way to provide economic sustenance and self reliance to them.
