Gunmen Attack Uratta Police Division In Aba, Kill Two Policemen, Injure Three
Burn Hilux Van, Cart Away Rifles, Uniforms
ABA — Two policemen were killed and three others injured when unidentified hoodlums attacked Uratta Eziukwu Divisional Police Headquarters, Aba, Abia State, in the early hours of Saturday.
The assailants, who struck at about 2 a.m., also burnt a police Hilux patrol van, set shops behind the station ablaze and carted away police rifles and uniforms.
Confirming the incident, Abia State Commissioner of Police, CP Wilfred Afolabi, who visited the scene, said no arrest had been made but investigation was ongoing.
“Well, hoodlums came and you see the damages they’ve done. They said this vehicle was ablaze. And in the course of it, we lost two men. Some of the shops at the back were set ablaze. For now, we’ve not made any arrests. We are working on that,” Afolabi said.
The CP said he was at the scene by 4 a.m. shortly after the attack.
“The most important thing is to get the culprits and that’s what we are doing,” he said.
On casualty figure, he clarified: “Two. Yes, three people are still in danger” — referring to the injured officers receiving treatment.
Afolabi described the visit of the Governor to the division as an encouragement to the command to do more.
“It’s an encouragement that the Governor came and that one further encouraged us to do better and do more. The assurance I can give is that wherever they are, whenever they enter the hood, we’ll bring them out,” he assured.
Police authorities said security has been reinforced in the area while manhunt for the attackers continues.
As at press time, the Abia State Government was yet to issue official statement on the attack.
