Security: Abia Govt Trains Container Unloader Unions in Aba

A one-day intensive security workshop and training has been organised for Container Unloader Unions in Aba aimed at partnering the Abia State government for intelligence gathering and effective security of the state.

The unloaders comprise individuals who are working with the Association of International Traders (AIT) and Ultimate Importers Association (UIA) in Aba.

Declaring the workshop open, with the theme, “Partnership Between Government and Frontline Unloaders, Threat, Communication and Information Management,” Governor Alex Otti called on Abia residents to be part of government efforts in securing Aba and Abia state at large.

The Governor, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Kenneth Kalu, encouraged the participants to take the workshop seriously, assuring that his administration is committed to transforming Aba.

“So what I want us to know is that all of us have a role to play. Aba is very known for the strength of its commerce. We want to live in a secure, safe environment. And that is why all of us have a role to play. That is why there is a workshop like this,” he said.

“I see a workshop like this as another demonstration of the willingness of our government to make our society safe, to ensure that we live in a very decent environment, a very decent society, to create a decent society.

“We are committed to transforming Aba to that industrial hub which it should be. We are committed in word and action in rebuilding our state for the good of everyone. We sincerely desire for all of us to thrive, Gov. Otti maintained.

In his address, the President, Association of International Traders (AIT) Prince Edmund Igwe said that the workshop is one of the benefits of their visit to Governor Alex Otti.

Igwe noted that the present administration has brought to an end decades of hardship faced by businesses in Aba.

He regretted that their colleagues and partners left the state in the past due to an unfriendly business environment and thanked the government for organising the security workshop for their unions.

In their reactions, some participants at the workshop including, Chairman, Newlife Container Unloaders Aba, Comrade Francis Azubuike, Chairman  Goodhope International Company, Gabriel Ogali and
Mr. Nwaibu Sylvester commended Governor Alex Otti for organising the workshop for them, describing it as first of its kind.

They said that the workshop would improve the relationship between them and the government and improve on the security of Aba and Abia state at large.

The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ctz. Ukoha Njoku Ukoha, the personal physician to the Governor, Dr. Idika Idika, representatives of the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigerian Army, and the Department of State Security Services, as well as the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, were present at the workshop.
