Week-long Free Medical Outreach Kicks-off Across 5 Centres in Abia
Abia Global Medical Outreach, organised in collaboration with the Abia Diaspora Commission has commenced across 5 designated centres in the state.
Speaking at the Abia State Specialist Hospital, Umuahia, after visiting some other centres of the outreach, the Commissioner for Health, Prof. Enoch Ogbonnaya Uche said the outreach is a continuation of Otti’s transformative agenda in the health sector.
Uche identified the three components of the outreach include as free medical, collaboration with global health organisations, and health insurance.
He said there is a training aspect, where frontline healthcare workers are trained on basic life support and advanced cardiovascular life support.

“This is part of His Excellency’s roadmap to healthcare equity in Abia state, which is a trilogy of projects that have been carefully planned and have been implemented to ensure that people in Abia, irrespective of where they live, down to the last mile, are able to access the highest quality of healthcare.
“The idea is that His Excellency believes that, taking health care directly to the people, saves health care costs, ensures that high-quality healthcare is delivered to the people at the grassroots” Prof. Uche stated.
The Commissioner, who lauded the Governor’s commitment to health care delivery in Abia, adding that the outreach would reduce quackery, and enjoined Ndiabia to take advantage of opportunity to get medical attention.

Also speaking, the Chairman, Abia State Diaspora Commission, Okechukwu Agbara said that the medical mission is offering free medical consultations, health promotion talks, skills transfer, free surgeries, and basic and advanced cardiovascular life support training.
He appreciated the commitment of Governor Alex Otti to the progress of the state, assuring of their support.
“This mission is being executed. it is a success. The surgeries are being done here. Then, there is eye surgery being done at SDA. About 150 of them each day. So, I will tell you this. Abia state is becoming something that everybody is pretty much proud of.
He appreciated the Doctors that volunteered to come for the medical mission, both from Diaspora and those that are at home, as well as members of the Diaspora Commission.
Some beneficiaries of the medical outreach at SDA hospital Aba, including Nnenna Chibuzor, whose little son had a hernia surgery, Izuchukwu Chinedu and Mr. Onyendi Clement whose hernia was removed, and Mr Ikechukwu Onyebuchi, whose son was operated upon at Specialist Hospital Umuahia said they are happy to be part of those that benefited from the Governor’s free medical outreach.
The ongoing medical outreach is taking place at the Abia Specialist Hospital Aba Road Umuahia, Uzuakoli Methodist Hospital, Seventh Day Adventist Hospital Ogbor Hill, Aba, Ahiaeke PHC, and Okoko Item Health Centre takes place between 8:00am to 4:00pm on daily basis and would be concluded on Friday this week.
