Introduction of Electric Buses not Meant to Drive Away Transport Business – Ukaegbu

Abia State Commissioner for Transport Dr Chimezie Ukaegbu has said that the introduction of the electric buses in the State is not to run down any transport company but rather to spur existing ones to live up to expectations.

Dr. Ukaegbu stated this when he paid a working visit to the Abia Line Network at the company’s headquarters in Umuahia, noting that the soon to be launched Electric Buses are for Urban Mass Transit aimed at driving genuine competition in the transport ecosystem.

He noted that his visit is to ascertain the kind of facilities at the company as government is interested in the running of the company and stressed the need to boost its revenue generation.

He urged the Staff of the Abia line Network Company to work in synergy to achieve the government’s desired goals in the transport sector.

Dr. Ukaegbu emphasised that Governor Alex Otti is working assiduously to transform the transport sector, adding that the essence of the central Bus Terminal is to a one stop transport hub for all transport companies in the cities

He maintained that the whole achievements are geared towards ensuring safety, discipline and sanity in the transport sector.

Earlier, the Chairman of Abia State Transport Cooperation, Emmanuel Ufomba thanked the Commissioner for his visit and appealed to the government to assist in the renovation of the dilapidated structures in the company.

Ufomba who raised concerns over the treatment meted to them by sister States, also pleaded that they should liaise with them for proper business relationship as accorded them in Abia state.

He however pledged support to government policies and do everything possible to revive the company.
