Abia Labour Party Holds Elective Congress as Peter Azubuike Emerges State Chairman

The Labour Party, LP in Abia State has elected Hon. Peter Azubuike as the State Chairman and Chuks Akanmadu, as Secretary in an elective congress held in Umuahia on Saturday.

Others elected in the State Executive at the consensus Congress held at the party’s secretariat in Umuahia, on Saturday, included Emenike Iroegbu, Publicity Secretary, Joy Ngozi – Treasurer, Ben Oti – Organizing Secretary among others.

Addressing the congress, Governor Alex Otti, described it as peaceful and a signal of a new era of unity in the party.

Otti, who congratulated the new executive members on their emergence, also commended the Congress Organising Committee for a job well done.

He thanked the former Chairman of the LP in Abia, Mr Emmanuel Oti for holding the Party firm during the period of National Leadership crisis.

The urged the new party leadership to ensure a seamless take-off of its administration and advised the former Leadership to support them as their experience would be vital in ensuring the stability of the Party.

Speaking earlier, the Chairman of the State Congress Committee and Special Adviser to the Governor on Political Matters, Hon. Acho Obioma, said that the congress followed successful ward and local government congresses held on Thursday and Friday, respectively.

Obioma, who said that the processes were peaceful and transparent, added that all aspirants emerged through a consensus reflecting the unity and internal democracy within the Labour Party.

Speaking in an interview with newsmen, the newly elected Chairman of the Labour Party, in Abia State, Hon. Peter Azubuike said that his mission is to lead the party to win every part of the State in 2027.

The grassroots politician from Obingwa LGA assured that the party would intensify membership drive and mobilise support to retain power in the State come 2027.
