Abia PDP Releases Senatorial Primary Election Result as Ogu, Udeachara, Onuoha Emerge through Consensus

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State has adopted a consensus arrangement for its senatorial primaries, leading to the emergence of unopposed candidates across the state’s senatorial districts ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The State Chairman of the party, Hon. Ama Abraham, stated this on Wednesday at PDP Secretariat Umuahia while briefing the press.

Hon. Abraham said the harmonisation process was in line with the directive of the PDP national leadership aimed at promoting unity and reducing internal disputes during the primaries.

He described the process as peaceful, transparent and successful, noting that most constituencies had agreed on single aspirants through internal consultations.

Hon. Abraham said the consensus model had earlier been used during the House of Representatives primaries and would also apply to the House of Assembly primaries scheduled for Friday.

“Out of the 24 House of Assembly seats, the party has been able to harmonise candidates in about 22 constituencies. Only two constituencies are expected to produce more than one aspirant,” he said.

He explained that the arrangement was designed to strengthen party unity ahead of the elections.

“This way, we are able to avoid unnecessary problems within the party and ensure that members remain united,” he added.

The Charman further disclosed that the party would conduct its governorship primaries on Sunday, adding that reconciliation efforts were still ongoing among aspirants.

According to him, four governorship aspirants remained in the race as of the time of the exercise.

Chairman of the PDP Primary Election Panel, Dr. Ikenna Onuoha, commended the conduct of the primaries, describing the process as credible and inclusive.

“The party charged us to ensure that the election was credible, fair, and that everyone was carried along, and that is exactly what happened,” Onuoha said.

He noted that the PDP constitution allows for either direct primaries or consensus arrangements, stressing that the Abia chapter successfully adopted the consensus option to ensure a rancour-free process.

“In Abia State, the leadership of the party has been able to effect the consensus mode, which enabled candidates to emerge.

“This is to ensure rancour-free elections and to make sure every member of the party remains a winner even after the primaries,” he stated.

Announcing the results, Onuoha declared Barrister Bob Ogu winner of the Abia Central Senatorial District primary after polling 18,901 votes as the sole aspirant.

“He is hereby returned unopposed because he is the sole aspirant for this election,” he said.

For Abia North Senatorial District, Chief Jude Udeachara emerged unopposed after securing 39,740 votes.

“He stands returned as the candidate for this senatorial district,” Onuoha added.

The panel chairman also praised the state leadership of the party under Hon. Abraham Ama for creating what he described as a conducive atmosphere for the successful conduct of the primaries.

“PDP is a peaceful political party that gives every individual the opportunity to exercise their franchise.

“The people have given these candidates their mandate to represent them in the forthcoming 2027 senatorial elections,” Onuoha concluded.
