Donko Inter-village Unity Cup Final: Ozuitem’s Shot At History Against Owerri FC

For weeks, the cosmopolitan city of Aba buzzed with razzmatazz and vociferous shouts of football fans and followers.

From the gritty turf of Etche Road Mini Stadium to the dusty lines of Ogbor-hill Primary School Field, the city breathed football, and witnessed pure football artistry from raw talents.

Now the dust settles. The stage is set for the final of the 2026 Donko Inter-village Unity Cup.

The match, which is billed to take place at the iconic Enyimba International Stadium on Tuesday, 16th June 2026, will see Ozuitem Football Club clash with Owerri Football Club in what promises to be a thrilling encounter, and a display of raw skill, relentless grit, and the kind of football and spectacle that reminds you why we fall in love with the game.

The competition, which is aimed at uniting villages and communities through football as well as harnessing raw talents, has climaxed to its crescendo as two teams square up against each other to determine the champions.

Last year, Ozuitem FC’s journey ended in the group stage– the tournament’s debut. But they have defied odds to cruise to the finals after a hard-fought victory over Alayi Football Club. The Ozuzuike Item boys had to rely on the lottery of penalty shootouts to triumph 4-2 after the regulation period had ended 3-3, and carved a path to the brink of history.

Their opponents, Owerri Football Club, also punched their ticket to the final by edging Abiriba Football Club in a penalty shootout after the 90 minutes ended goalless.

For Ozuitem FC, they will walk onto the hallowed turf of the Enyimba International Stadium with Abiriba and the neighbouring communities behind them, in a show of support that could prove crucial in their quest for glory, and they must leverage it.

On the other hand, the Naze boys of Owerri won’t lie low. They are here for business, carrying the pride of Imo State on their shoulders, and they will be backed by the roaring support of Imolites across Aba.

Notwithstanding, the Omaka boys of Ozuzuike Item will not bulge; they stand unshaken. They’ve come too far to blink now, and are poised to weather every charge the Naze boys unleash. They will respond with the same resilience, tenacity, aggression, and discipline that carved their path to this final. For them, this is more than a match. It is a chance to turn grit into glory and lift the coveted trophy.

Their hopes will rest on the feet of their talisman, Victor Nmesoma Isaac, to inflict the damage that breaks their opponents, and on the steady head and experience of utility man Ofo Akaliro to keep the team on course. But above all, they will play as a single force– eleven minds locked in one heartbeat– rising together to soar.

Ozuitem FC will take on Owerri FC on Tuesday, 16th June 2026, at the Enyimba International Stadium, Aba, in the final of the 2026 Donko Inter-village Unity Cup. Kickoff time is 3 pm local time.
