ABIA POLICE ARREST FATHER OVER GRUESOME ABUSE OF 13-YEAR-OLD SON IN ABA
CP Afolabi Condemns Act As “Inhumane, Barbaric”, Victim In Stable Condition Under Police Protection
ABA, Abia State – The Abia State Police Command has arrested a man, Mr. Uzoma Uwaeme, for allegedly subjecting his 13-year-old son to severe abuse after a viral video of the incident circulated on social media.
This was disclosed in a press statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chioma Chinaka.
According to the Command, the viral video showed a young boy who was tied with a rope, brutally flogged, severely injured, stripped naked, and left exposed under the scorching sun.
On the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Wilfred Afolabi, operatives of the Abayi Divisional Police Headquarters arrested the suspect at his residence on *Nwokocha Street, off Udeabara Road, Aba.
The victim is said to be the son of the suspect. Police said the boy’s mother had allegedly left him and the father had remarried.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, for discreet investigation. The suspect is currently in police custody.
The Command stated that the victim has received medical attention, is in stable condition, and is currently under the protective custody of the Police.
CP Afolabi strongly condemned the act, describing it as “inhumane, barbaric, and a gross violation of the rights of the child.”
He reiterated the Command’s zero tolerance for all forms of child abuse and domestic violence, and assured the public that the suspect will be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The Commissioner urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report all cases of abuse and criminality to the nearest police station or through the Command’s dedicated lines.
“The Abia State Police Command remains committed to safeguarding the rights, dignity, and well-being of all residents, especially vulnerable members of society,” the statement added.
