Abia Police Arraigns Father Over Gruesome Abuse of 13-Year-Old Son, Victim In Protective Custody

UMUAHIA — The Abia State Police Command has arraigned Mr. Uzoma Uwaeme for the alleged gruesome abuse of his 13-year-old son.

The suspect, who was earlier arrested by the Command, was charged to court upon conclusion of investigations at the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, and has been remanded in correctional custody.

The Command disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday, September 16, 2026, by its Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chinaka.

According to the statement, the victim has been handed over to the Ministry of Women Affairs for proper care, rehabilitation and continued protection.

The Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Wilfred Afolabi reiterated the Command’s unwavering commitment to ensuring justice for victims of abuse and holding perpetrators accountable under the law.

He emphasized that the Command will continue to work in synergy with relevant government agencies and stakeholders to safeguard the rights and welfare of children across the state.

The Command encouraged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report all cases of child abuse, domestic violence and other criminal activities to the nearest police station, assuring that it remains resolute in its duty to protect lives, dignity and fundamental rights of all citizens.
