ABSU Mourns as Former DVC Academic, Prof. G.I.N. Emezue Dies

UTURU, Abia State – The Abia State University, Uturu (ABSU) community has been thrown into mourning following the sudden passing of Professor G.I.N. Emezue, former Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic of the institution.

In a statement signed by Austin Chinemerem Okpechi, Personal Assistant to the late don, the family announced that Prof. Emezue died on Wednesday, 26th August, 2026, after a brief illness.

The statement described the late professor as a distinguished scholar, mentor and administrator who served ABSU with commitment.

“Professor Emezue passed away on Wednesday, 26th August, 2026, after a brief illness. His death has thrown the Emezue family, ABSU community, colleagues, students, and the academic world into deep grief,” it read.

“Prof. Emezue served ABSU with diligence, integrity, and commitment to academic excellence. As DVC Academic and former ASUU-ABSU Chairman, he upheld academic standards, advanced staff welfare, and contributed immensely to the growth of the University.”

The family noted that his legacy “will remain indelible in ABSU.”

Colleagues and former students have described Prof. Emezue as a firm advocate of academic standards and staff welfare during his tenure as ASUU-ABSU Chairman and later as DVC Academic.

The university community is expected to hold a special memorial in his honour in the coming days.

According to the family, burial arrangements will be announced in due course.

“May his soul rest in perfect peace. Amen,” the statement concluded.
