ABIA SCHOOLS TO RESUME SEPTEMBER 14 FOR FIRST TERM 2026/2027 SESSION

Ministry Directs Teachers To Report, Urges Parents To Send Wards Back Immediately

UMUAHIA, Abia State – The Abia State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education has announced that public and private schools in the state will resume on Monday, September 14, 2026, for the First Term of the 2026/2027 academic session.

The announcement was made in a press release signed by the Commissioner, Elder Goodluck Chinedu Ubochi.

According to the Ministry, the First Term will run for 13 weeks with the following key dates:

– *Resumption Date*: Monday, September 14, 2026
– *Mid-Term Break*: Monday, October 27 – Friday, October 31, 2026
– *Closing Date*: Friday, December 11, 2026
– *Holiday Period*: Saturday, December 12, 2026 – Sunday, January 3, 2027 (22 days)

The Commissioner directed all Principals of public schools, Heads of schools, and Proprietors/Proprietresses of private schools to prepare for resumption.

“All teachers are by this announcement informed to report to their duty posts accordingly,” the statement said.

Parents and guardians were also advised to ensure their children and wards return to school on the resumption date as teaching and learning will commence immediately.

The Ministry further urged school heads to ensure compliance with the approved academic calendar and maintain standards for effective service delivery.
