Abia South APC Stakeholders Praise Tinubu, NWC for Transparent Primaries, Rally Support for Ikonne

Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia South Senatorial District have applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) for what they described as the transparent and fair conduct of the party’s recent primary elections.

The group said the outcome of the primaries, which produced Hon. Prince Paul Ikonne as the APC senatorial candidate for Abia South and Barr. Sam Nwogu as the party’s candidate for Ukwa Federal Constituency, reflected the genuine wishes of party members.

Speaking on behalf of the stakeholders, Hon. Chinwe Nwangaga said the leadership shown by President Tinubu and the NWC solidify confidence in the party’s Intra-party Democratic process.

“We appreciate President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the National Working Committee for their commitment to fairness, transparency and democratic principles.

“Their actions ensured that the voice of party members was respected and the mandate of the people restored,” Nwanganga said.

The stakeholders said the emergence of Ikonne also reflected the party’s commitment to equity and fairness in the Abia South Senatorial District.

They further commended President Tinubu for appointing former Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, as Nigeria’s Ambassador to the Kingdom of Spain, describing the appointment as a recognition of Abia South’s contributions to national development.

On Ikonne’s candidacy, the stakeholders said his extensive experience in politics and public administration makes him well-suited to represent the district in the Senate.

They noted that Ikonne had served as Special Adviser to former Abia’s Governor, Orji Uzor Kalu before holding the positions of Commissioner for Lands and later Commissioner for Works and Transport in Abia State.

They also recalled that he contested the 2011 governorship election under the platform of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN).

According to the group, Ikonne further demonstrated his administrative capacity during his tenure as Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA), where he served from 2020 to 2025 and oversaw programmes aimed at boosting agricultural development across the country.

“His experience in public service and national administration has prepared him to provide effective representation and attract meaningful development to Abia South,” Nwangaga said.

The stakeholders reaffirmed their support for the APC and pledged to work for the success of President Tinubu, Ikonne and other candidates of the party in the forthcoming general elections.

“We believe the party has demonstrated its commitment to justice, equity and fairness. We are united in our resolve to mobilise support for all APC candidates and ensure victory at the polls,” the group said.
