Abia Soccer Fest Kicks-off in Ikwuano as Nwaubani Expresses Desire for Council to Emerge Overall Winners

The preliminary stage of Abia State Ward and Local Government Football Tournament tagged Abia Soccer Fest 2025 has kicked off at the Michael Okpara University Umudike football pitch in Ikwuano.

Performing the ceremonial kick-off of the competition featuring Amaoba and Umudike Teams, the Ikwuano Local Government Area Mayor, Dr Anthony Nwaubani disclosed that the desire of the youth friendly governor, Dr Alex Chioma Otti, is to raise great youths from the grass root.

Dr. Nwaubani expressed his desire to see Ikwuano emerge the overall winner at the state level.

He stressed that the competition should be truly friendly, devoid of any form of hooliganism nor cut throat hostility.

The Ikwuano Mayor advised the players to play for Ikwuano, score for Ikwuano, and make Ikwano proud.

The opening ceremony was attended by the Chairperson, Princess Nnenna Nwaubani, the Deputy Mayor, Hon. Lucky Awuwa, the Secretary to the Local government, Hon Aham Azuonwu, as well as sports enthusiasts and the general public.

The opening match was won by the Umudike Team who defeated the team from Amaoba by a lone goal.
