Final Year Student of MOUAU Slumps, Dies During Football Training Exercise

A final year student of Mechanical Engineering of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike, Nwachukwu Omiko, has reportedly died during a football training exercise.

This was disclosed in a statement signed by Ubadire Agua, Chief Public Relations Officer, on behalf of the University Management.

The Eagle News gathered that Omiko, said to be ashmatic, slumped at the San Siro Football pitch MOUAU, while efforts by his co-players to resuscitate him was unsuccessfully before they alerted the University Health Services.

“He was immediately rushed to the Federal Medical Centre in the University’s oxygen-equipped ambulance in a neck-breaking speed,” said the statement.

“The University regrets that despite the efforts to keep Mr. Omiko alive, it lost him to the cold hands of death.

“The Vice-Chancellor of MOUAU, Prof. Maduebibisi Ofo Iwe, CFS, extends the deep regrets and condolences of the University to the parents and family of Mr. Omiko as well as his colleagues in the College of Engineering and Engineering Technology.

“The University Management also appeals to all students of the University to check their health status with the University Health Services upon arrival on the Campus, and avoid strenuous exercises if they have underlying health challenges.”
