Two Dead as Trailer Collides with Tricycle in Umuahia
At least two persons have been confirmed dead following a ghastly road accident involving a commercial tricycle (popularly known as keke) and a trailer along the Ubakala axis of Umuahia on Sunday.
The accident occurred around Deeper Life Church, before the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) junction, after Ubakala Junction of the Enugu/Port Harcourt expressway.
Eye witness accounts say four persons were onboard the tricycle when a trailer reportedly rammed into it from behind and dragged it for a distance before coming to a stop.
The impact resulted in severe head injuries and multiple fractures.
The tricycle operator and a female passenger died as a result of the crash, while a young man and another female passenger sustained critical injuries and were rushed to the Accident and Emergency Unit of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Umuahia, where they are currently receiving treatment.
The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the FMC mortuary for proper identification.
Residents and road users have been advised to check on their loved ones, while motorists are urged to exercise caution along the route.
The Eagle News reports that the accident, Abia Emergency Management Service was on hand to carry out rescue operations.
