A monthly Imprest of two hundred thousand naira has been approved for Heads of Environmental Health Officers across the 17 local government Areas in Abia State for sanitary inspections.

The Commissioner for Environment, Mr Philemon Ogbonna, who disclosed this during a meeting with HODs of Environmental Health Officers, challenged them to move into the nooks and crannies of the state to ensure a clean and hygienic environment.

Ogbonna while urging them to work harmoniously with their mayors, pointed out that the present administration expects much from them in terms of service delivery.

He emphasised the need for them to change that impression of collecting bribes which people have against them, maintaining that the government will not hesitate to sanction any of the sanitary inspectors who compromise in his or her duties.

The Commissioner encouraged them to support the efforts of the Dr Alex Otti-led administration that has given priority attention to the cleanliness of the state, as well as restoring the sanitary inspectors.

He explained that the present administration is doing a lot and will support the sanitary inspectors across the 17 LGAs of the state to discharge their duties effectively.

Responding, the chairman of the Forum of Heads of Environmental Health Officers, Mrs Onyinyechi Nwaigwe, thanked the Governor, for his interest in the environmental cleanliness of the state, and the commissioner for his commitment to duty.

Mrs Nwaigwe assured that they will work assiduously to justify the confidence reposed in them by Governor Alex Otti.
