Techmedia Africa Launches “Students In Tech” to Connect Campus Talent to Tech Careers, Funding
_New platform targets Nigeria’s 2.5m tertiary students amid $18bn digital economy push
*LAGOS, Nigeria — August 2026* – TechMedia Africa has officially launched _Students in Tech_, a nationwide community platform designed to connect Nigerian students with careers, funding, mentorship and opportunities in the country’s rapidly growing technology ecosystem.
The initiative, unveiled this month, targets students in universities, polytechnics, monotechnics and colleges of education across Nigeria.
It aims to bridge the gap between campus talent and industry opportunity at a time when Nigeria’s digital economy is projected to contribute more than $18 billion by the end of 2026.
According to TechMedia Africa, the platform will provide mentorship, career guidance and access to opportunities in high-demand fields including software engineering, data analytics, product design, project management, cybersecurity and artificial intelligence engineering.
For student entrepreneurs, _Students in Tech_ will also serve as a gateway to grants, startup funding, accelerator and incubation programmes, fellowship opportunities, founder mentorship and industry exposure through TechMedia Africa’s ecosystem and partner network.
*Addressing Nigeria’s Digital Skills Gap*
The launch comes amid projections that Nigeria will need 28 million digitally skilled workers by 2030. An IFC and World Bank report also estimates that 230 million jobs across Sub-Saharan Africa will require digital skills by 2030.
Yet Nigeria produces approximately 600,000 graduates annually, many of whom face unemployment or underemployment despite growing opportunities in tech.
TechMedia Africa says Nigeria’s tertiary education system, with an estimated 2.5 million students, represents one of the country’s greatest untapped advantages.
“Students in Tech is about creating a structured pathway for students who are already building, learning, and innovating, but often lack access to the networks, mentorship, and opportunities that can accelerate their journey,” said Obianyimuo Nchedo Annastasia, Students in Tech Project & Community Operations Manager.
*Two Pillars: Student Professionals and Student Founders*
The platform is built around two core pillars:
1. *Student Professionals*: Focused on students pursuing tech careers. Members will get access to technical training, job and internship opportunities, gig work, CV and portfolio reviews, interview preparation, career guidance and industry networking.
2. *Student Founders*: For students building startups or innovative ideas. Benefits include grants, funding opportunities, accelerator and incubation programmes, fellowship opportunities, founder mentorship and startup storytelling through TechMedia Africa.
*Call to Nigerian Students*
TechMedia Africa is inviting students across all tertiary institutions to join the community.
“Are you a Nigerian student? This is the time to Learn, Connect, Build, and Grow. Your future in tech starts now,” the organisation said.
