DiamondHeart Opens Nominations for 2026 Humanitarian Service Diamond Awards, Champions Service-Driven Leadership Ahead of 2027

DiamondHeart Initiatives Ltd/GTE announced the commencement of nominations for the 2026 Humanitarian Service Diamond Awards (HSD Awards), its flagship initiative dedicated to recognising outstanding humanitarian service, philanthropy and transformational leadership across Nigeria, Africa and the global community.

The announcement was made on Wednesday in Abuja as the organisation unveiled plans for the 2026 edition of the awards, which is held annually to commemorate World Humanitarian Day observed every August 19.

This year’s award themed “Diamonds of Humanity: Celebrating the Power of Service and Transformational Leadership,” with the sub-theme, “2027: Inspiring Citizens to Elect Leaders of Character, Service and Transformational Vision.”

The theme underscores the need for citizens to prioritise integrity, accountability, compassion and proven records of service as Nigeria prepares for the 2027 general elections.

Speaking on the significance of the initiative, the Executive Director of DiamondHeart Initiatives, Comrade Ikechukwu Norbert, said the awards have become more than a platform for recognition.

“The Humanitarian Service Diamond Awards is more than an awards ceremony.

“It is a national platform for celebrating compassion, integrity, sacrifice and transformational leadership.

“As Nigeria prepares for another electoral cycle, we must continue to encourage citizens to support leaders whose lives already reflect service to humanity.

“Leadership should never be defined merely by ambition, but by character, compassion, competence and a proven commitment to improving lives,” he said.

Norbert said the awards would honour individuals, public office holders, institutions and organisations whose contributions have made measurable impact in humanitarian service, healthcare, education, youth empowerment, peacebuilding, climate action, food security, social justice, media advocacy, corporate social responsibility, innovation and sustainable development.

He also urged government institutions, corporate organisations, development partners, civil society organisations and members of the public to nominate deserving humanitarian champions whose work continues to transform lives and communities.

As part of the programme, keynote addresses will be delivered by the speakers who are expected to examine humanitarian leadership, ethical governance, diplomacy, nation-building and the importance of electing leaders with character and a demonstrated commitment to public service.

Nominations, which opened on June 8, will close on July 12, 2026, with both self-nominations and third-party nominations accepted.

The 2026 Humanitarian Service Diamond Awards ceremony will be held in Abuja and is expected to bring together humanitarian leaders, diplomats, government officials, development partners, corporate executives, traditional and religious leaders, media practitioners and civil society actors from across Nigeria and beyond.

Reflecting the significance of this year’s theme, the event will feature keynote presentations by two distinguished scholars and internationally respected humanitarian leaders:

Prof. Mkpa Agu Mkpa, OFR — Former Vice-Chancellor, Abia State University (ABSU), and Vice President, Institute of Humanitarian Studies and Social Development (IHSD).

H.E. Amb. Prof. Tunji John Asaolu, FIDR, FIMC — Secretary-General, United World Congress of Diplomats (UN-WCD).

Their keynote addresses will provide thought-provoking perspectives on humanitarian leadership, ethical governance, nation-building, diplomacy, and the imperative of electing leaders whose character, competence, and commitment to service can transform society.
