NDC Candidates Hail Transparent Primary, Predict Victory in 2027 Elections

Newly elected candidates of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have expressed confidence in the party’s prospects in the 2027 general elections following what they described as a transparent and credible primary election held in Abia State.

Speaking shortly after his emergence as the NDC candidate for the Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency House of Representatives seat, Agwu Emele Agwu described the outcome as a victory for democracy and the people.

“I am happy and grateful for the confidence reposed in me by party members.

“What we witnessed today was more than just a primary election. It was a demonstration of the strength of our party and the commitment of our supporters,” he stated.

According to Agwu, the large turnout recorded during the exercise showed that the NDC was steadily gaining momentum ahead of the 2027 elections.

“We wanted to use this election to test our strength in the constituency, and the response has been overwhelming. People came out in large numbers, participated peacefully, and made their voices heard. This is only the beginning of what we expect to see in 2027,” Agwu said.

He also expressed confidence in the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, whom he described as a leader trusted by many Nigerians.

“Nigerians are looking for credible leadership, and we believe Peter Obi represents that hope. He is a man of integrity, a man of action, and someone who understands the challenges facing ordinary citizens. We are confident that the NDC will perform strongly at all levels in the next general elections.”

Agwu maintained that the party was committed to offering practical solutions to the country’s challenges and restoring confidence in governance.

“We have suffered as a nation for too long. The people deserve better, and we believe the NDC has what it takes to bring positive change and make Nigerians proud once again,” Agwu said.

Also speaking, O’Brien Iroh, the NDC candidate for Ohafia North State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, commended the party for conducting what he described as one of the most transparent primary elections in recent times.

“I am delighted that observers and party members witnessed the process firsthand.

“The election was peaceful, transparent, and credible. The votes were counted openly and the results reflected the wishes of the delegates,” he said.

Iroh noted that the successful conduct of the exercise had strengthened confidence in the party’s internal democratic processes.

According to him, the primary produced candidates with strong grassroots support and the capacity to represent the interests of the people effectively.

“Today’s outcome shows that our party believes in democracy and fairness. The candidates who emerged did so through a transparent process, and that gives us confidence going into the 2027 elections.”

Assessing the conduct of the primary, he described the process as orderly and devoid of irregularities.

“There was no over-voting or confusion. People queued, votes were counted properly, and the results were announced openly. It was a process everyone could be proud of,” he concluded.
