Umuosu Afugiri Lifts Coral Football League Trophy, Beats Umuagungolori Obiohuru 2-0 in Final

Umuosu Community has lifted the Coral Football League trophy for villages in Afugiri, Umuahia North LGA of Abia State after defeating Umuagungolori Obiohuru 2 0 in the final played at Williams Memorial School, Afugiri, Umuahia.

The Coral Football League, sponsored by Dr Charles Iheanyi Ukeagu, was organised in honour of his late mother, Elder Mrs Margaret Ukeagu.

Speaking before the presentation of medals and prizes, Dr. Ukeagu, described the tournament as a celebration of football, unity and shared joy, praising the teams for their discipline and entertaining brand of play.

He announced that the league would become an annual event, with plans to increase prize money in future editions.

According to him, the peaceful conduct of players and supporters throughout the competition, without any incidents of violence or disorder, was a source of pride and encouragement.

Ukeagu also commended the organising committee, officials from the NPLF, the referees and the match commissioner, Mr Ukaegbu Jonathan, describing the tournament as a true symbol of unity, brotherhood and oneness in the Afugiri community.

He expressed gratitude to the dignitaries who graced the final including the immediate past speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Chinedum Orji, former ASEPA General Manager, Chief Eze Okwulehie, Mr Obi Onwuzuruike, and Mr Emeka Elias,

Others are High Chief Enyinnaya Onyekwere, former member who represented Umuahia North State Constituency, Chief Kelechi Onuzuruike, as well as founder of Don FM Radio Mayor Lucky Igbokwe, widely known as Don Lulu, among others.

Rt Hon Chinedum Orji, who decorated the winners, alongside High Chief Enyinnaya Onyekwere, commended the organisers for their coordination and pledged continued support for the competition.

He urged youths to channel their energy into sports and positive pursuits.

The President of the Ohuhu Welfare Union Youth Wing, Mr Iheanacho Uchenna, and Mr Collins Utah also praised Dr Ukeagu and other contributors for staging a tournament that brought life, excitement and homecoming joy to the community during the festive period.

They expressed optimism that future editions would grow into an even wider and more competitive football spectacle.

The Most valuable player, Azubike uchechukwu David, best goal keeper, Odinma Stephen Iroatunmere and hghest goal scorer, Ahamefule Chibuike were also recognized and honoured during the event
