MOUAU Launches Business School with Ogah, Ukaegbu, Others Inaugurated as Board Members

The Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike has launched its Business School and inaugurated the Board of Directors as well as its Management Team.

Speaking at the event held at the New Lecture Hall of the University, the Vice Chancellor, Prof Maduebibisi Iwe disclosed that the business school was envisioned to be a hub for leadership development executive education, entrepreneurship and policy engagement.

Prof. Iwe noted that MOUAU Business School represents a deliberate shift towards interdisciplinary thinking and practical impact while remaining anchored in the University’s core values of excellence integrity and service.

“It stands as a symbol of continuity, a bridge between what has been built and what is yet to come,” he said.

“It is a seed planted today, whose frurts will be harvested by future generations of scholars, entrepreneurs, policymakers, and leaders.”

The outgoing VC while noting that no vision of such magnitude thrives by sustained goodwill alone, appealed for support to transform the school from promise to global prominence.

“To truly make the MOUAU Business School a world class institution, we require partnerships, collaboration, and collective ownership.

“I therefore make a heartfelt appeal to our Board members, alumni, friends of the University, industry leaders, development partners, and government agencies to walk this journey with us.

“Your support – through infrastructure, endowments, scholarships, faculty development, research funding, and international linkages—will transform this School from promise to global prominence.”

Responding, a member of the Governing Board and the Abia State Commissioner for Transport Dr Chimezie Ukaegbu said the appointment is not merely an honour, but a call to duty, to shape the intellectual and entrepreneurial future of the institution and Nigeria at large.

Dr Ukaegbu pledged the commitment of other members of the Board, to upholding the highest standards of corporate governance, supporting the Management of the Business School in achieving its strategic objectives and fostering partnerships to enhance visibility, funding, and academic excellence.

MOUAU Business School has the Vice Chancellor as Chairman, Board of Directors with former minister of State for Mines and Steel, Dr. Uchechukwu Sampson Ogah as Co-chair while the management team is headed by Prof Michael Ekwe as Director.

Other notable members of the board are Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, former Senate President, Dr. Adolphus Wabara, Former member of House of Representatives, Rep Sam Onuigbo, and Chairman, South East Development Commission, Dr. Emeka Wogu.

The list also includes Deputy Speaker Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Sistine Okezie Mmeregini, Director General of Debt Management Office, Abia State, Dr. Kingsley Nwaigburu, Chief Choker Udensi, Chief Emeka Udeokporo, amongst others.
