Edo, Delta, Enugu Shine as 1st Abia Open National Para Powerlifting Championship Continues in Umuahia 

_Day Two Results See Athletes From 11 States Clinch Medals_

UMUAHIA, Abia State – The 1st Abia Open National Para Powerlifting Championship continued on Day Two on Friday, with athletes from across the country recording impressive lifts and securing medals for their states.

The championship, holding in Umuahia the Abia State capital, has drawn para athletes from various states competing across male and female weight categories.

Edo State led the day with 3 gold medals, while Oyo, Delta, Enugu and Kano also claimed gold in their respective categories. Athletes from Plateau, Lagos, Imo, Osun, Ogun, Rivers, Kwara and Katsina also made the podium.

Officials said the championship is aimed at identifying and developing para powerlifting talents ahead of national and international competitions, while also promoting inclusion and sports development in Abia State.

The event ends tomorrow, Saturday with more weight categories expected to be decided.

– 54kg: 1. Mimololu Olabode (Oyo) – Gold; 2. Joe Meibaka (Rivers)– Silver; 3. Lawal Abubakar (Katsina) – Bronze.

– 59kg: 1. Abimbola Osaro (Edo) – Gold; 2. Ibrahim Dauda (Oyo) – Silver; 3. Clifford Onwunali (Imo) – Bronze.

– 65kg: 1. *Kayode Blessing (Edo) – Gold; 2. Noah Adeola (Oyo) – Silver; 3. Muhammed Abdulateef (Kwara) – Bronze
