ASUBEB Sets Up Committee to Review New Teachers’ Postings

The Abia State Universal Basic Education Board, ASUBEB has set up a committee to review the posting of the 5,300 teachers recently recruited by the State government.

According to the Board, the review was to ensure equity and fairness especially where the married ones who are 80% in number, are not posted to schools very far away from their families.

The Executive Chairman of ASUBEB, Lady Lydia Onuoha who stated this on Wednesday in Umuahia during a stakeholders’ meeting, said the new teachers were expected to resume on September 1, 2025.

Onuoha said that the Committee would liaise with other stakeholders to ensure that the posting process is seamlessly harmonious and urged the new and existing teachers in the State to be calm as the State government would do the needful.

“We are working to ensure that applicants are posted to schools very close to where they reside. We are also working to ensure that the positions are seamless,” Onuoha said.

“We have a large percentage of of applicants that are married women which is eighty percent and this makes it difficult to post this group of persons out from their families.”

Onuoha who said that a helpline has been opened for the concerned teachers to present their concerns, also assured them that Governor Alex Otti has approved that provisions be made for those who would be posted to hard-to-reach areas.

She further said that some LGAs where applications were not recieved during the recruitment exercise would also be given attention in the teachers’ posting.

On security of school facilities, Lydia Onuoha disclosed that the Governor has approved the recruitment of security personnel for schools, saying that the recruitment would be done with the involvement of the Local Government Mayors.

The meeting which involved Education Secretaries from the 17 LGAs, was also attended by Ferdinand Ekeoma, Special Adviser to Governor on Media and Publicity, Kenechukwu Nwosu, Senior Special Adviser to the Governor on Basic and Secondary Education, as well as representatives of Local Government Chairmen, Nigerian Union of Teachers and the Chairman of Non Academic Staff Union, NASU, Isidore Ibebuike.

Also, the Board Secretary, Dr (Mrs) Uzoamaka Amah-Mba who is also the Chairman, Teachers Recruitment Committee, said that the process of employment and initial posting of the new teachers were credible as the committee did not demand any form of payment from the applicants.

Earlier in their contributions, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma and Special Adviser to the Governor on Basic and Secondary Education, Kenechukwu Nwosu said that Governor Alex is interested in the teachers’ welfare, satisfaction and enhanced quality education outcome in the State.
