Otti’s Govt Supports Initiatives that Improve Service Delivery – Ukaegbu … as NIPOST Launches Postal Tagging of Waybills 

Abia State Commissioner for Transport Dr Chimezie Isaac Ukaegbu has assured that the administration of Governor Alex Otti would continue to support innovations that improve service delivery and institutional efficiency in the State.

Dr. Ukaegbu stated this in Umuahia on Tuesday, during the official flag-off of Postal Tagging on Waybills for parcels and logistics operations in Abia State by the Federal Government, through the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST).

The initiative is part of efforts to strengthen regulation, accountability and efficiency in Nigeria’s courier and logistics sector.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Transport Commissioner described the initiative as a major innovation capable of repositioning the transport and postal ecosystem in Abia state.

He noted that the partnership between NIPOST and Touch and Pay Technologies would introduce greater efficiency in payment systems, tracking and regulation of transport and logistics operations, particularly as the state government partners them in interstate electric bus transport operation payment system and informal logistics providers.

Dr. Ukaegbu emphasised that the exercise would bring tremendous transformation to the postal system, urging transport unions, vehicle owners and informal operators to embrace the initiative for the overall benefit of the transport sector and the economy.

In her welcome address, the Abia State Postal Manager, Mrs. Winifred Ngozi Amadi, described the flag-off as a significant milestone in the modernization, regulation and digital transformation of parcel and logistics operations in Abia State.

Mrs. Amadi, who spoke on behalf of the Postmaster General of the Federation and Chief Executive Officer of NIPOST, explained that the collaboration between NIPOST and Touch and Pay Technologies was designed to address challenges in the informal logistics sector through enhanced revenue assurance, improved security in parcel management and a more efficient transportation and waybill system.

She stressed that the introduction of postal tagging on parcels and waybills goes beyond administrative processes, noting that it would improve traceability, standardization and confidence in the movement of goods from one destination to another while enhancing seamless postal and logistics operations.

According to her, Abia remains a major commercial hub in Nigeria with growing transportation and logistics activities, making a coordinated and technology-driven framework imperative.

Mrs. Amadi appreciated the support of the Abia State Government under Governor Alex Otti and called on transport unions, operators and security agencies to cooperate with NIPOST to ensure the success of the programme.

In a goodwill message, the Head, Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation, Abia State, and Chairman, Association of Heads of Federal Establishments (AHFE), Lady Abiakam Gloria Ifeyinwa, noted that efficient logistics systems and digital tracking mechanisms have become critical to economic growth and national development.

She described the initiative as a strategic Federal Government intervention aimed at strengthening regulation, monitoring, accountability and revenue generation within the courier and logistics sector.

Lady Abiakam commended the leadership of Mrs. Winifred Amadi and the collaboration with Touch and Pay Technologies for championing the innovation, and assured continued institutional support for initiatives that promote national development, regulatory compliance and public confidence in government systems.

The event attracted key stakeholders in the transport and logistics sector, including government agencies, transport unions, security agencies and industry operators, all of whom pledged support for the successful implementation of the initiative in Abia State.
