Otti to Unveil Abia State 25-Year Growth Development Plan

Abia State Government says it will soon unveil the State’s 25-Year Growth Development Plan, a strategic, future-proof document that will articulate the State’s development trajectory for the next 25 years.

The Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu disclosed this in Umuahia after this week’s State Executive Council meeting chaired by Governor Alex Otti.

Kanu said the plan will outline the short-, medium-, and long-term aggregate growth in a sequential progression with the ultimate goal of developing the State in a structured manner, regardless of the administration in power.

According to him, the document will include funding pathways for the plan, adding that necessary legal backing will be put in place to ensure that it runs in full course.

The Information Commissioner further announced that the state’s Materials Testing Laboratory has been fully installed and will soon be commissioned, noting that the facility, will play a vital role in preventing building collapses across Abia state.

He said the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education has successfully conducted the first statewide annual school census, while a total of 4,150 schools, 1,687,326 learners, and 45,151 staff participat in the exercise.

“For the first time, all schools uploaded their data digitally via the National Education Management Information System (NEMIS) platform”

He noted that though many private school proprietors were reluctant to disclose enrollment data, the census yielded significant achievements, including the distribution of 1,221 Android tablets to school heads and data officers.

He informed that the state’s adult and non-formal education programme is now fully operational, giving citizens who missed early educational opportunities a second chance to learn and become employable.
