Abia Comets Honours Former Captain Dimgba with Dedicated Service Award

Abia Comets Football Club of Umuahia has presented an award of dedicated service to former captain, Dimgba Ogechi for his service to the club.

Dimgba was the long-standing captain of Abia Comets Football Club from 2011-2025.

He was presented the award in a ceremony on Wednesday, by the Chairman, Chief Boniface Alozie Uche, at the Club office in Umuahia.

Media Officer, Emmanuel Chinedu, in a statement, said the club thanked him for his meritorious service to the club and for his dedication.

He played his last season for Abia Comets in the 2024/2025 Nigeria National League (NNL) season.

“The club Chairman stated that in furtherance to the club’s tradition of retaining its retired players as staff, which has kept not less than six of such retired players in various positions, Ogechi Dimgba has equally been appointed as the club’s Safeguarding officer,” the statement said.

Receiving the award on his behalf, his elder brother, Mr Chinedu Uka Obasi, thanked the Chairman for the prestigious award and expressed the family’s gratitude to the club for the honour.

“This is a position that was newly created by the Nigeria National League (NNL) for all league teams,” the statement maintained.
