The Labour Party faction, loyal to Abia State Governor Alex Otti, has officially elected Senator Usman Nenadi as the Interim National Chairman and Senator Darlington Nwokocha as Interim National Secretary.

The election also came along with other key members of a new interim working committee.

This major development happened during the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in Abuja on Friday, July 18, 2025.

The newly constituted interim team will oversee the party’s affairs until a full National Convention is held to elect a fresh NEC.

The meeting also approved a timetable for upcoming ward, local government, state, and zonal congresses, leading up to the national convention.

To ensure transparency and fairness, the NEC directed the National Secretariat to publish official guidelines and timelines for all elections at different levels – a strong signal that the Labour Party is repositioning itself and getting ready for serious political action ahead of the 2027 general elections!

But the Julius Abure-led Labour Party has disowned Friday’s National Executive Committee meeting of stakeholders of the party.

While describing the gathering as illegal, unconstitutional and of no consequence, the faction also warned Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, to desist from expending state resources on trivialities.
