In line with the directive from the National Secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, the Abia State Council of the Union has resolved to fight quackery and impersonation of journalists by non professionals.

This is contained in a nine-point Communique issued at the end of her monthly Congress for the month of July held at the NUJ Secretariat, 66 Aba Road Umuahia and endorsed by the Chairman, Comrade Chidi Asonye and the Secretary, Comrade Ikechukwu Onuegbu.

According to the Journalists henceforth anyone not licenced to practice as a journalist in accordance with the Nigeria Press Council law but parades as one especially bloggers, if arrested, will be made to face the full weight of the law.

The Congress also commended the Dr. Alex Otti-led administration for its unrelenting efforts in road infrastructure across the state.

The Congress further urged the contractor handing the reconstruction work at Akanu Ibiam and Library Avenue roads to ensure that the drainages are well opened up to avoid diversion of flood from the main road into the drainage.

The NUJ urged the state government to construct a roundabout and speed breakers at the Signboard Junction axis of Umuahia-Uzuakoli road to prevent frequent road accidents that have claimed lives along that stretch.

The Pens pushers also advised motorists especially Tricycle operators to reduce their excessive speed while using the newly constructed road.

Congress also appealed to the Governor Alex Otti to bring to conclusion, the suspended promotion exercise for Civil Servants, considering the fact that the majority of the workers have not been promoted for over six years, to enable them to taste new salary scales which will serve as motivation for greater productivity.
