Abia NUJ Chair Emerges Zik FM New Head of Station

The Abia State Council Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Comrade Chidi Asonye has been announced as the new Station Manager of ZikFm 96.3, Umuahia.

According to the Mazi Isaac Okoroafo, Chief Executive Officer of Communication Faculties Limited, proprietors of the Igbo speaking radio station situated in Umuokorie Umuobia Olokoro, Umuahia South Local Government Area of Abia State, the decision was taken, not to please anyone, but because, “I know you potentially have what it takes to do the job.”

He promised to provide his administration with the needed wherewithal for him to succeed as the new helmsman of the radio station, especially as the country gets closer to the 2027 General Election.

Comrade Chidi Asonye joined the media outfit about three years ago, as a News Editor and Presenter, and has produced editions of radion programmes, including HooHaa, O Di Egwu, Azum Ahia Di Ire, Ekpere n’Ofufe, among otthers.

Comrade Asonye is a prominent figure in the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Abia State Council, even as he currently serves as the Chairman of the Council, having held various leadership positions within the union.

He is a seasoned journalist with more than three decades of experience in the field, having worked in several editorial roles even as he is known for his commitment to promoting intellectual development, positive narratives, and innovation, especially among young people.

Asonye was inaugurated as a member of the National Executive Council of the NUJ and had also served as the pioneer chairman of the Unity Federated Chapel of the NUJ in Abia State.

He advocates for better welfare for journalists, improved working conditions, and sustainable collaboration between journalists and society.

Asonye has organized events like the Abia NUJ Agric Show, aimed at promoting agriculture and food security in the state, even as he emphasizes the importance of intellectual growth, creativity, and moral values in shaping a progressive society.
