Abia Govt Warns Against Extortion by Impersonators in Ohafia
The Abia State Government has issued a stern warning against the illegal collection of revenue by unauthorized individuals in Ohafia Local Government Area.
The Deputy Governor, Ikechukwu Emetu in a statement, condemned the practice, saying that it undermines the trust between the government and citizens.
Reports have it that certain individuals have been impersonating government officials, and collecting fees from motorists in Ohafia LGA without proper documentation or authorization, leading to tensions in the Community, with some residents taking matters into their own hands.
The Deputy Governor emphasized that the Abia State Government does not authorize any individual or group to collect fees or levies on its behalf without proper documentation and official endorsement from the Abia State Board of Internal Revenue.
He urged all residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to fee collection to the appropriate authorities.
Also the Abia State Taskforce Team Ohafia Zone has been directed to step up efforts in combating illegal revenue collection and reaffirm its commitment to transparency, accountability, and community service.
The government further assured citizens of its commitment to protecting them from exploitation and ensuring that all financial transactions are conducted transparently and legally.
Residents are further advised to only make payments to authorized personnel with proper documentation and official endorsement.
