Abia Govt Approves Comprehensive Retrofitting of Civil War Structures in Umuahia

Abia State Executive Council has approved a comprehensive renovation and upgrading of two civil war structures located in Umuahia, following finalisation of agreements with the National Commission for Museums and Monuments.

They are the Ojukwu Bunker and National War Museum, all in Umuahia, the State capital.

Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu made this known while briefing newsmen after the executive council meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti.

He said that the renovation would reposition the two war-time monuments to rich historic and tourism sites for Abia State and Nigeria at large.

Kanu said that the renovation of the centres would preserve the Abia and Nigerian history and elevate tourism potentials of the sites.

Lending his voice, the State Commissioner for Arts, Culture and Creative Economy, Mathew Ekwuribe said that the Abia State government would finalize every memorandum of agreement with the National Commission for Museums and Monuments, and the Federal Ministry of Arts, Culture and Creative Economy under one month.

The Abia State government also announced that 119, 438 persons have successfully enrolled into the Abia State Health Insurance Scheme.

The information boss noted that the figure brings to 217,000, the number of those captured in State and National Health Insurance Scheme.
