Payment of Arrears to Abia Former Elected Councillors to Commence February Ending – Otti

Former elected councillors in Abia State have been assured that payment of the outstanding salary and other entitlements owed them by previous administrations in the state would commence by the end of February.

Abia State Governor Alex Otti gave assurance in Umuahia during a meeting with the Association of Former Elected Councillors in Abia State (1999-2022), emphasising that the payment which would be made in batches is not politically motivated.

He noted that a labourer deserves his wage, assured that his administration stands for what is just and right and would always stand by it.

He thanked the Association for towing the path of peaceful resolution by withdrawing the case instituted against the state government in court over their salary arrears and assured them of equal treatment irrespective of party affiliation.

The Commissioner for Local government and Chieftaincy Affairs Uzo Nwachukwu regretted the manner previous administrations neglected the welfare of those who served under them and thanked Governor Otti to wipe away the tears of Abians and expressed the hope that the former Councillors would play their part in the new Abia project.

In his Speech, the National secretary of Labor Party Senator Darlington Nwokocha appreciated the Governor for deeming it necessary to bring the former Councillors together in response to their welfare,urged members of the Association to identify with the Labor Party by obtaining their membership cards.

He described the Labor Party as a party with conscience and dignity, noting that the party under Governor Alex Otti takes pride in doing what is just and right.

Earlier, the Coordinator of the Association, Tony Agbayim decried the extent of ridicule they suffered through negligence to their welfare by the government they served including the death of some of their members.

The former elected councillors thanked Governor Otti for prioritizing the welfare of workers through prompt and regular payment of salaries and pensions and thanked him for wiping away their tears.

The Former Elected Councillors used the forum to endorse Governor Alex Otti as their sole candidate for his future aspirations.
