Works Minister, Umahi Provides Date for Completion of Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway

The Minister of Works, Dave Umahi has assured that the reconstruction work at Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway will be completed in November this year.

Umahi disclosed this while inspecting the damaged portions at the Osisioma axis of the 56 kilometre Abia Tower of Peace, Umuahia to Rail Flyover, Aba section of the road.

He further disclosed that the road, on completion, will be commissioned by President Bola Tinubu.

Speaking on the damaged portions, Umahi directed the Controller of Works in Abia, to stop the contractor handling the underground drainage for Abia State Government from further work.

He said that he would meet with Governor Alex Otti for discussion on the best way to get the issue settled.

The Minister commended Arab Contractors, the firm handling that section of the road for doing good work and promised them the Federal Government will give the firm more jobs to do

He used the forum to inform that President Tinubu will visit Abia State on May 23, to commission the 6.5 kilometre Port Harcourt Road in Aba, rebuilt by the Dr. Alex Otti administration after many years of abandonment.

Umahi who expressed joy that work on Port Harcourt Road, Aba which was left in a dilapidated state over the years, has been completed, commended Otti for not only completing work on the road, but also for the quality of job done.

He said the Governor has done so much for Abia state in two years that people are wondering where he is getting the money to execute all the projects.

Earlier, the site manager of Arab Contractors, Mohammed Elyam told the Minister that work has been completed on the left hand side of the dual carriage way, remaining the right side, adding that it will be completed by November and handed over to the Federal Government.

Abia State Controller of Works, Chidi Uwaeziozi applauded the Minister for coming in person to see things for himself, noting that formal compliant had been made to the appropriate quarters concerning the damage done on portions by the contractor handling construction work for Abia Government.
