Renowned Evangelist Rev. Uma Ukpai Laid to Rest in Ohafia Amidst Eulogies

The remains of renowned Evangelist and international preacher, Dr. Uma Ukpai has been committed to mother earth in his home town Asaga Ohafia in Ohafia local government area of Abia State, amidst an outpouring of tributes.

The Ohafia, Abia State born Christian leader and international preacher, passed on to glory on October 6, 2025, at the age of 80.

Speaking during the funeral service held at Coronata Secondary School, Asaga, the Governor Alex Otti noted that the deceased was a man who walked closely with God and dispensed divine grace with humility and compassion.

Represented by his Deputy, Ikechukwu Emetu, the Governor noted that the late Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai played a pivotal role in building and strengthening the Church across denominations.

He emphasised that his faith, works, and unwavering witness would remain a lasting inspiration for both the present and future generations.

“Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai was not just a preacher of the Gospel; he was a bridge-builder whose life united the Body of Christ and inspired generations across the world,” Otti said.

Otti further highlighted the enduring legacy of the revered cleric and his immense contributions to spiritual growth, unity in the body of Christ and human development.

“His unwavering faith, even in the face of trials, stands as a powerful reminder that true service to God demands courage, sacrifice, and total surrender.”

He added that although the cleric has departed, his legacy remains indelible in the countless lives he transformed and the enduring impact of his ministry.

In his sermon, the General Superintendent of Assemblies of God Church Nigeria, Rev. Dr. Abel Amadi, reminded Christians of the transient nature of life, likening it to the fleeting beauty of a flower.

Rev. Amadi urged believers to remain steadfast in the Word of God and embrace Jesus Christ as the true source of greatness.

In her tribute, the widow of the deceased, Pastor (Dr.) Philomena Uma Ukpai, thanked God for the impactful life her husband lived, describing him as a “General” who honoured God, his people, and his nation.

She also expressed appreciation for the overwhelming show of love and support extended to the family.

Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai, who passed on at the age of 80, is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, and numerous spiritual sons and daughters.

His life and ministry have been widely celebrated as a model of service, humility, and unwavering devotion to God.

The event drew a solemn yet uplifting gathering of dignitaries, clergy, and faithful, all united in celebrating a life dedicated to the service of God and humanity.
