Otti Satisfied with Progress, Quality Work at Central Bus Terminal Umuahia

Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work at the Umuahia Central Bus Terminal.

Otti who spoke to newsmen during an inspection tour of the project site located at Isigate Umuahia, set the completion date at January ending.

The Governor likened the facility to the Paddington Terminal in the United Kingdom, noted for integrating rail, road, and commercial services within a single location.

He said the concept of the multimodal transport system is to create a one-stop hub for commuters in the capital city, instead of having different terminals at different locations within the town.

“Hopefully, before the end of this month, they would have gone far. But, what I see here gives me the impression that by the end of the month, if they haven’t completed, they would be very close to completing it,” Otti said.

“But, even if they need more time, I’ll give them more time because it’s better done right the first time. But, so far so good.”

Addressing residents later, the Governor emphasised the need to protect the projects, noting that they are for the people and further urged road users to obey traffic lights and observe road markings.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Transport, Mr. Chimezie Ukaegbu, explained that the Umuahia Central Bus Terminal is designed to serve as a one-stop transit hub, integrating rail, bus, and other transport services.

According to him, the railway station, bus station, and all motor parks in Umuahia will be centralised at the terminal – an initiative he said, is also being replicated in Aba, the state’s commercial hub.

He noted that the project aims to ensure that commuters can access any mode of transport from a single location, adding that similar facilities in Aba are expected to be completed by May.

On accommodation for late-night travellers, the Commissioner clarified that while a guest house is not included in the design, adequate waiting spaces have been provided.

The Eagle News reports that the Governor, also inspected the ongoing construction work at Ahiaeke/Okwuta Road, where he also expressed confidence for timely completion of work.
