Okezie Ogbonna: Obuoro Community Denies Killing Own Son, Calls for Thorough Investigation

The people of Obuoro in Agbo Ibere Autonomous Community, Ikwuano LGA of Abia State have called on the Abia State Government and the Police to carry out a thorough investigation that would lead to the arrest of those behind the death of their son, Okezie Ogbonna.

Okezie Ogbonna, a commercial motorcyclist, died on March 10, 2025 at Federal Medical Centre Umuahia after being attacked by unknown persons in AwomNaebo village in Ikwuano LGA.

His wife, Ogechi Ogbonna alleged that Okezie her husband banished and killed by his own kinsmen.

However, members the community, led by the Prime Minister GodDay Nduche and President General, Mr. Emenike Enyinnaya and Ariondu Enyinnaya, have denied the allegations of banishing and killing their own son, Okezie.

Addressing newsmen in Umuahia on Sunday, they noted that it was an age long ‘Erim’ (abomination) for any Ibere man to inflict blood injury or kill his kinsman.

According to them, the late Okezie had disowned and ejected some of his relatives and also inflicted blood injury on a member of the community because of residential property, an offense, they said, required him to appease the land.

Chief GodDay Nduche pointed out that the late motorcyclist sometime this year, allegedly invaded his community with some thugs from Port Harcourt who beat up some members of the community before he was arrested and detained in Islam Police station.

“Days after he was released from detention we forgave him and he relocated to his wife’s community in Itunta, refusing to come back home to perform the Erim tradition and also sued us to Court through human rights people.

“But We were jolted on Saturday to read and hear in the news that we killed our own son which is not true at all. The place around the University town where he was attacked is a far distance from Ibere and has been prone to attacks by criminals who snatch motorcycles,” said Nduche

He appealed to Abia State government and the Police to help in finding those who killed their son even as he said that some community members have recieved an invitation to appear before the Area Command of Nigerian Police on Monday.

Spokesperson of Abia State Police Command, DSP Maureen Chinaka had on Friday, confirmed that the matter was under investigation.
